‘The Remarried Empress’ Sets November Disney+ Bow

Disney+ has set a November premiere date for โ€œThe Remarried Empress,โ€ a 10-part Korean drama adapted from the Naver Webtoon series of the same name, which has drawn nearly three billion views to date.

The show centers on Empress Navier and Emperor Sovieshu of the Eastern Kingdom, whose marriage unravels after Sovieshu falls for a runaway slave and pursues her affection. Navier agrees to the emperorโ€™s request on the condition that she be permitted to wed a rival monarch, Crown Prince Heinrey of the Western Kingdom, setting off a struggle over love and power that threatens to destabilize the kingdom as Navier works to reclaim her standing.

Shin Mina (โ€œKarma,โ€ โ€œHometown Cha-Cha-Chaโ€) stars as Empress Navier, opposite Ju Jihoon (โ€œLight Shop,โ€ โ€œThe Trauma Code: Heroes on Callโ€) as Emperor Sovieshu. Lee Jongsuk (โ€œBig Mouthโ€) plays Crown Prince Heinrey, and Lee Seyoung (โ€œThe Red Sleeve,โ€ โ€œThe Crowned Clownโ€) plays Rashta, the escaped slave at the center of Sovieshuโ€™s pursuit.

Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol adapted the series for the screen, with Cho Suwon (โ€œStill 17,โ€ โ€œPinocchioโ€) directing. The production was shot across multiple locations, including European palaces and other elaborate sets, according to Disney+.

The series will have its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in October, where it is set to screen three of its 10 episodes as part of the festivalโ€™s On Screen selection ahead of its full Disney+ rollout.

โ€œThe Remarried Empressโ€ will roll out with a four-episode premiere on Nov. 4, then add two episodes each Wednesday until the series wraps with its finale on Nov. 25.

The series joins a slate of Korean Originals on Disney+ that includes โ€œMade In Korea,โ€ about a Korea CIA agent balancing underworld business dealings with a hunger for power; โ€œTempest,โ€ centered on a global conspiracy threatening the Korean Peninsula; and โ€œMoving,โ€ which follows South Korean special agents protecting their super-powered children.
