Is Bobby Flay coming to the Great White Way?
On July 18, Flay visited โThe Tonight Showโ to talk grilling, celebrity friends and his show โBBQ Brawl: Flay V. Symon.โ During the sit-down with Jimmy Fallon, the chef teased another project heโs working on that may come as a surprise to fans of the Food Network personality.
โThis is a true story,โ Flay told Fallon. โWeโre making โBeat Bobby Flay: The Musicalโ actually, for Broadway.โ
Flay asked everyone not to laugh, assuring them that the project is actually in the works. While he didnโt share when the musical will premiere, he said it already has an โamazingโ composer and a writer, too. But one thing it doesnโt have yet is its star.
โThe whole thingโs happening, but I need a lead to play the Bobby Flay character,โ he continued, before seemingly asking Fallon if he can make a connection happen. โWe need Justin Timberlake.โ
Flay noted that Timberlake hasnโt won a Tony yet โ which means heโs done his research โ and that he can dance and โdo it all.โ
โJust for a month,โ Flay pleaded.
Flay also hinted at the format of the musical, which wonโt have โa bunch of show tunes.โ
โItโs a real New York situation where thereโs gonna be a party every night in the theater,โ Flay added.
โAnd Iโm assuming food?โ Fallon said.
โThere will be some food for sure,โ Flay responded.
Online, Flayโs fans reacted to news of the musical with jokes and genuine excitement.
โLudicrous,โ wrote one Reddit user, while another said, โIโm here for it. Not gonna lie.โ
โI hope this isnโt satire,โ commented someone else. โBobby Flay understands camp.โ
For those who doubt Flayโs mission to set his competition show to song, this isnโt the first time heโs publicly mentioned the idea. On the July 11, 2024 episode of โBeat Bobby Flayโ titled โBroadway Bound,โ he pitched the idea to guests chef Jet Tila and Broadway veteran Sutton Foster.
โActually, I want to talk to you about something,โ Flay told Foster. โIโm so actually glad youโre here tonight, because Iโve been going through this idea for a long time: โBeat Bobby Flay: The Musical.โโ
When Flay said that heโs โtotally serious,โ about the idea, Foster had one single question.
โWould you be in it?โ she asked.
โNo,โ Flay replied emphatically. โSutton, you know the right questions.โ
