The Musical’ Is Coming to Broadway

Is Bobby Flay coming to the Great White Way?

On July 18, Flay visited โ€œThe Tonight Showโ€ to talk grilling, celebrity friends and his show โ€œBBQ Brawl: Flay V. Symon.โ€ During the sit-down with Jimmy Fallon, the chef teased another project heโ€™s working on that may come as a surprise to fans of the Food Network personality.

โ€œThis is a true story,โ€ Flay told Fallon. โ€œWeโ€™re making โ€˜Beat Bobby Flay: The Musicalโ€™ actually, for Broadway.โ€

Flay asked everyone not to laugh, assuring them that the project is actually in the works. While he didnโ€™t share when the musical will premiere, he said it already has an โ€œamazingโ€ composer and a writer, too. But one thing it doesnโ€™t have yet is its star.

โ€œThe whole thingโ€™s happening, but I need a lead to play the Bobby Flay character,โ€ he continued, before seemingly asking Fallon if he can make a connection happen. โ€œWe need Justin Timberlake.โ€

Flay noted that Timberlake hasnโ€™t won a Tony yet โ€” which means heโ€™s done his research โ€” and that he can dance and โ€œdo it all.โ€

โ€œJust for a month,โ€ Flay pleaded.

Flay also hinted at the format of the musical, which wonโ€™t have โ€œa bunch of show tunes.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s a real New York situation where thereโ€™s gonna be a party every night in the theater,โ€ Flay added.

โ€œAnd Iโ€™m assuming food?โ€ Fallon said.

โ€œThere will be some food for sure,โ€ Flay responded.

Online, Flayโ€™s fans reacted to news of the musical with jokes and genuine excitement.

โ€œLudicrous,โ€ wrote one Reddit user, while another said, โ€œIโ€™m here for it. Not gonna lie.โ€

โ€œI hope this isnโ€™t satire,โ€ commented someone else. โ€œBobby Flay understands camp.โ€

For those who doubt Flayโ€™s mission to set his competition show to song, this isnโ€™t the first time heโ€™s publicly mentioned the idea. On the July 11, 2024 episode of โ€œBeat Bobby Flayโ€ titled โ€œBroadway Bound,โ€ he pitched the idea to guests chef Jet Tila and Broadway veteran Sutton Foster.

โ€œActually, I want to talk to you about something,โ€ Flay told Foster. โ€œIโ€™m so actually glad youโ€™re here tonight, because Iโ€™ve been going through this idea for a long time: โ€˜Beat Bobby Flay: The Musical.โ€™โ€

When Flay said that heโ€™s โ€œtotally serious,โ€ about the idea, Foster had one single question.

โ€œWould you be in it?โ€ she asked.

โ€œNo,โ€ Flay replied emphatically. โ€œSutton, you know the right questions.โ€
