New day, new box office milestone for Sonyโs latest Spidey adventure.
โSpider-Man: Brand New Dayโ has surpassed $2 billion in global ticket sales, eclipsing the rare benchmark after just three weekends of release. The comic book adventure, starring Tom Holland as Marvelโs neighborhood web-slinger, has grossed $785 million in North America and $1.23 billion overseas for a grand total of $2.022 billion.
The newest โSpider-Manโ is one of eight films in history to reach the $2 billion club, joining the small-but-mighty company of 2009โs โAvatarโ ($2.9 billion), 2019โs โAvengers: Endgameโ ($2.7 billion), 2022โs โAvatar: The Way of Waterโ ($2.3 billion), 1994โs โTitanicโ ($2.2 billion), 2015โs โStar Wars: The Force Awakensโ ($2.07 billion) and 2018โs โAvengers: Infinity Warโ ($2.03 billion). (Meanwhile the prior โSpider-Manโ installment, 2021โs โNo Way Home,โ was thisclose with $1.9 billion but missed the milestone because the superhero adventure didnโt play in China.) Notably, โBrand New Dayโ is the second-fastest film to reach the threshold after โEndgame,โ which got there after 11 days.
โSpider-Man: Brand New Dayโ has been shattering expectations since landing in theaters at the end of July. The movie, Hollandโs fourth solo outing as Peter Parker, captured a record-setting $355 million in North America and staggering $932 million globally in its opening weekend and then cleared $1 billion after just six days of release.
Thereโs no question that โBrand New Dayโ will leave the big screen as one of the highest-grossing movies of all time (in fact, itโs already the eighth-biggest worldwide release ever). But where will ticket sales ultimately wind up? With stratospheric enthusiasm and encouraging staying power, box office watchers are wondering whether โBrand New Dayโ could become the only movie to ever reach $1 billion domestically (โStar Wars: The Force Awakensโ currently stands as the biggest North American release ever with $936 million) and maybeโฆ possiblyโฆ potentially even the first to hit $3 billion globally.
