Top Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor carries a bullet wound in a new image from Sanjay Leela Bhansaliโs upcoming feature โLove & War,โ in which he stars alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
The image places Kapoor at the wheel of a vintage turquoise convertible. He wears sunglasses and a white short-sleeved knit shirt, his hair slicked back above a mustache. Blood runs from his shoulder to his wrist and spatters the car door below. A gold-toned watch sits on the injured arm.
The film brings Kapoor back to Bhansali 19 years after the director launched him in โSaawariya.โ The announcement pitches the new role as a fresh screen persona for the actor, shaped by Bhansali, with Kapoor at the heart of what it described as the filmmakerโs biggest romantic undertaking to date.
Speculation about the three leads and how their characters relate to one another has trailed the project since it was unveiled. The first look leaves those questions open, including what Kapoorโs character has lived through and where he stands in the filmโs love triangle.
โLove & Warโ will release in the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. Marudhar Entertainment is handling the release. The film opens in cinemas worldwide on Jan. 21, 2027.
Kapoor debuted as a leading man with Bhansaliโs romance โSaawariyaโ (2007), a Fyodor Dostoevsky adaptation. Bhatt headlined Bhansaliโs women empowerment saga โGangubai Kathiawadi,โ which bowed at the 2022 Berlinale. Kapoor and Bhatt starred together in Disneyโs sci-fi mythological superhero film โBrahmastra Part One: Shivaโ (2022).
Bhatt most recently headlined Yash Raj Filmsโ spy universe thriller โAlpha.โ Kaushal, meanwhile, delivered 2025โs biggest Bollywood hit with the historical epic โChhaava.โ Kapoorโs last big-screen outing, โAnimal,โ was one of 2023โs top-grossing Indian films.
โLove & Warโ follows Bhansaliโs large-scale period dramas โDevdas,โ โBajirao Mastani,โ โPadmaavatโ and โGangubai Kathiawadi,โ as well as his Netflix series โHeeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.โ
