NASCARโ€™s Joey Logano leads groundbreaking of mixed-use community in Huntersville

A 70-acre mixed-use community, TOWN1, is transforming Huntersville with retail, housing, and offices, spearheaded by NASCAR’s Joey Logano.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. โ€” A massive 70-acre mixed-use community is now under construction off Hambright Road near I-77 South, and developers say it will bring something entirely new to Huntersville. The TOWN1 project will combine restaurants, housing, offices, and retail into what they describe as a โ€œdestinationโ€ for the region.

NASCAR driver Joey Logano, who owns the property, says the goal is to create a place the community can be proud of.

โ€œIโ€™m really excited,โ€ Logano said.

More than a decade ago, Logano purchased the land with no intention of developing it.

โ€œI wanted a place to park some hot rods and build some racetracks, and it was all about fun,โ€ he said.

But as Huntersville grew, and as Loganoโ€™s own life evolved, so did his vision.

โ€œWe saw a great opportunity and a need there, so maybe not off-road tracks but somewhere people can go on Friday and Saturday night,โ€ Logano said.

The partnership behind TOWN1 is planning a large, walkable community featuring:

  • 75,000 square feet of retail
  • A five-story office building
  • 300 modern farmhomes
  • 321 urban flats
  • 75 townhomes

Developer Ben Geisler of Treenail Development says the project blends several popular concepts into a new identity.

โ€œThe best way to describe it is a Kingsley Towns Center meets South End meets Birkdale with its very own unique vibe and energy,โ€ Geisler said.

Logano emphasized that with his name attached โ€” and his home nearby โ€” he wants the project to exceed expectations.

โ€œItโ€™s something at the end of the day my name is tied to it and I live right there and I canโ€™t hide from it. I want it to be really really nice,โ€ he said.

A business park will also be built on the north end of the property after the mixed-use portion is completed.

The full development is expected to take three years to build.
