Megyn Kelly was lambasted by โThe Viewโ hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines and more for attacking Christina Applegate after the Emmy winner revealed she was misdiagnosed with MS. Kelly reacted to Applegateโs news on her eponymous talk show by alleging Applegate must be โcrying now because I guess she no longer gets to be the face of this disease.โ
โThis is, like, the problem with celebrities like wanting to lean into their health problems,โ Kelly said on her talk show, shading Applegateโs health journey as a โwild goose chase.โ
โSo, let me ask you, maโam, you think Christina wanted to have MS so she could have a good time? Are you crazy?โ Goldberg fired back on โThe View,โ with Haines also asking, โWho wants to be the face of MS?โ (via Entertainment Weekly).
โTalk about kicking someone when theyโre down,โ Haines continued. โShe got a diagnosis and wanted to help other people. [Sheโs] now feeling the pain of not knowing what her identity is and, more importantly, what her diagnosis is. Megyn Kelly sold her soul for politics. Which one did a better job here? She literally has sunk so low in my book.โ
Ana Navarro said she didnโt โeven want to get into the Megyn Kelly of it all because I think sheโs like a fungus that thrives on oxygen that she gets by purposely creating outrageโ on sensitive topics, with Haines then calling Kelly a โbullyโ and Sunny Hostin slamming Kelly as โan ugly person.โ
Goldberg concluded: โThe idea that you would come out and say something like this, Megyn, is unbelievable, that you donโt have the wherewithal to recognize that someone is saying, โThis is whatโs happening to me. Thatโs how we get through our lives. We connect to each other. Thatโs what this is about, and Iโm going to connect to you and say rethink your position on this, because youโre wrong.โ
Applegate originally revealed that she had been diagnosed with MS in 2021, and retired from acting after the finale of her hit series โDead to Meโ the next year. She then become a fierce advocate for people with the disease โ which causes damage to the central nervous system โ and started the โMeSsyโ podcast alongside โThe Sopranosโ star Jamie-Lynn Sigler as a way to share her experience and spread awareness.
After taking a seven-month break from the podcast, Applegate returned to the program on Oct. 21 and broke down in tears while telling listeners that new technology led to the discovery that she was misdiagnosed with MS.
โThis may come as great news, but to me, Iโm back at square one,โ Applegate said. โItโs hard to say that [my doctor] came into my room and she said, โCongratulations, you donโt have MS.โ You donโt get misdiagnosed and then all of the sudden Iโm better. I havenโt gotten better โฆ If anything, Iโve gotten worse in some ways. So Iโm back at square one, that I donโt know whatโs going on with me.โ
Applegate added that โitโs weird because I feel like I let everybody downโ after becoming such a big advocate for the MS community. She said that sheโs still in a โstate of shock,โ adding: โItโs a mindfuck, for sure.โ
