Maisie Williams Thriller Ignition Bought by Saban for North America

โ€œIgnition,โ€ the upcoming high-concept thriller led by Emmy-nominated โ€œGame of Thronesโ€ star Maisie Williams, has been acquired for North America.

WestEnd Films โ€”ย which launched the film in Cannes โ€”ย has closed a domestic deal with Saban on the film, directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker James Erskine (โ€œCopa 71,โ€ โ€œBillie,โ€ โ€œSachin: A Billion Dreamsโ€). The deal comes following international sales including U.K. (Signature Entertainment), Spain (Twelve Oaks), Portugal (NOS), the Middle East (Falcon Films), CIS & Baltics (Arna Media), Eastern Europe and Israel (Forum Film).

Currently in post-production, โ€œIgnitionโ€ sees Williams โ€”ย currently on screens in โ€œPractical Magic 2โ€ โ€”ย play a woman whose drive to London is thrown into chaos when an anonymous caller informs her that a bomb has been planted in her car. Trapped and cut off from any outside help, sheโ€™s forced to follow the terroristโ€™s instructions, her every move watched, with no choice but to deliver the ticking bomb to its target โ€” the Royal Albert Hall. As the clock counts down, she must use all her wits to survive and, as the synopsis describes, โ€œuncover why she has been entangled in this elaborate terror plot.โ€

The film co-stars BAFTA nominee Rory Kinnear (โ€œNo Time to Die,โ€ โ€œThe Diplomatโ€) and Lovi Poe (โ€œBad Man,โ€ โ€œSeasonsโ€).

โ€œIgnitionโ€ โ€”ย which was filmed using real locations and on live roads using remotely operated multi-camera systems โ€”ย was produced by Victoria Gregory (โ€œMaiden,โ€ โ€œMan on Wireโ€), Erskine, Sean Sorensen (โ€œBlack and Blue,โ€ โ€œWorthโ€), Adriel Thomas, Jason Maza (โ€œTwist,โ€ โ€œ10ร—10โ€) and Mark Stewart (โ€œHeist,โ€ โ€œEscape Planโ€). The deal was negotiated by Maya Amsellem, managing director at WestEnd Films, on behalf of the filmmakers, and Bill Bromiley, vice chairman of Saban Films.

โ€œMaisieโ€™s performance leaves you on edge, brilliantly bringing to life James Erskineโ€™s terrific script,โ€ said Bromiley. โ€œWe are proud to be a part of it, and to be working with Maya and the team at WestEnd.โ€

Added Maya Amsellem: โ€œWeโ€™re delighted to have Saban on board for โ€˜Ignition.โ€™ They immediately understood Jamesโ€™s bold vision and the filmโ€™s strong commercial potential. Itโ€™s a gripping thriller with a fantastic lead performance from Maisie, and weโ€™re excited for North American audiences to experience it.โ€

WestEnd, which acquired the film under WeLove, its label dedicated to promoting female-driven stories and championing female talent, will continue international sales at TIFF.

โ€œIgnitionโ€ was produced by New Black Films under its New Bright Films label, together with Playhouse Pictures, Sharp House and in association with Royal Viking Entertainment, Epic EV Studios, Vectorscope Films and Cโ€™est Lovi Productions.

Executive producers include Williams, Michael Safai, Montgomery Blencowe, Jon Levin (โ€œAll The Empty Roomsโ€), Randy Jones Toll (โ€œRoofmanโ€), Steven J. Toll (โ€œRoofmanโ€), Ian Sharp and Pat Wintersgill.
