Lynas Rare Earths and the race to build supply chains beyond China


CNBC goes inside Lynas Rare Earthsโ€™ Malaysia operation as former CEO Amanda Lacaze discusses its turnaround and the race to diversify supply beyond China.

Australian producer Lynas Rare Earths has become a key player in the push to build rare-earth supply chains beyond China.ย 

“Managing Asia” goes inside the company’s processing plant near Kuantan, Malaysia, where Lynas refines material mined at Mount Weld in Western Australia for use in electric vehicles, wind turbines and advanced defense systems.ย 

In an interview conducted shortly before she stepped down as CEO, Amanda Lacaze tells Christine Tan how she helped steer Lynas out of financial distress and turn it into a major global supplier. She also discusses competition with China, the company’s next phase of growth and her 12 years leading Lynas.ย
