‘Kane Chronicles’ Show From Rick Riordan in the Works at Disney+

โ€œKane Chroniclesโ€ is coming to TV.

A series adaptation of the Rick Riordan book series is in development at Disney+. If the project is ordered, Angela Robinson (โ€œTrue Blood,โ€ โ€œThe L Wordโ€) will executive produce and write the show alongside Riordan, who is best known for his โ€œPercy Jackson and the Olympiansโ€ series.

โ€œThe Kane Chroniclesโ€ is an trilogy based on Egyptian mythology, set in the same universe as Riordanโ€™s โ€œCamp Half-Blood Chroniclesโ€ (which includes โ€œPercyโ€) and โ€œMagnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard.โ€ The series follows siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, who have magical powers and are descendants of the two pharaohs Narmer and Ramses the Great.

Per the showโ€™s logline, โ€œWhen their father unleashes the god of chaos and vanishes, the estranged Kane siblings must master their inherited Egyptian magic, forge unlikely alliances, and rescue their father before warring gods can wreak havoc on our modern world.โ€

Feature film adaptations of โ€œThe Kane Chroniclesโ€ books were previously in development in Netflix, but in 2024 Riordan said โ€œNetflix has decided not to move forward and their option has lapsed after trying for two years to develop a script they liked. Now it depends on whether another studio would like to step in, assume the preproduction costs, and move forward.โ€

It appears Disney, which is already in the Riordan business with its successful โ€œPercy Jackson and the Olympiansโ€ TV show, is that studio. On โ€œKane Chronicles,โ€ Riordan is re-teaming with โ€œPercyโ€ executive producers Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell of the Gotham Group, as well as his wife and creative partner Rebecca Riordan.

The โ€œKane Chroniclesโ€ show is set up at 20th Television, where Robinson is currently developing TV projects. Robinson is a writer, director and producer whose credits also include โ€œHow to Get Away With Murder,โ€ โ€œHungโ€ and, most recently, โ€œWednesday.โ€ On the film side, she wrote and directed the queer cinema cult classic โ€œD.E.B.S.โ€

Aside from the โ€œPercyโ€ show on Disney+, Riordanโ€™s work has also been seen on screen with the 2010 movie adaptation โ€œPercy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thiefโ€ and its 2013 sequel, โ€œPercy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.โ€
