Jacob Chase to Direct ‘Sleepover’ for Blumhouse Atomic Monster, Universal

โ€œInsidious: Out of the Furtherโ€ director Jacob Chase is set to direct the horror project โ€œSleepoverโ€ for Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures. Described as the โ€œquintessential sleepover nightmare,โ€ itโ€™s set for an Oct. 8, 2027 theatrical release.

Chase directs from a screenplay co-written with โ€œNight Swimโ€ screenwriter Bryce McGuire, adapted from McGuireโ€™s original short story.

Blumhouse Atomic Monster also presented Chaseโ€™s โ€œInsidious: Out of the Furtherโ€ along with Sony. The sixth installment in the โ€œInsidiousโ€ franchise opened this past weekend to a solid $60 million worldwide. Chase has also directed โ€œCome Playโ€ and last yearโ€™s โ€œBad Boy.โ€

Ahead of the โ€œInsidious: Out of the Furtherโ€ release, Chase told Variety, โ€œScaring people is kind of like magic โ€” literally magic tricks โ€” which is also something I had a real affinity for growing up,โ€ he says. โ€œItโ€™s all misdirection, right? Itโ€™s figuring out how you can constantly surprise an audience in the way that the best magic tricks do.โ€

Jason Blum will produce, while Chase, McGuire and Bea Sequiera serve as executive producers. Lilly Tyson will oversee the project for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

โ€œSleepoverโ€ is a Cinescape Entertainment production presented by Universal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Chase is represented by CAA, Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman, and The Initiative Group. McGuire is represented by Gersh and Ziffren Brittenham.
