iPhone Fold rumor: iPad-like multitasking, but no iPad apps and no Face ID

Appleโ€™s rumored foldable iPhone will come with an iPad-style interface that will allow users to view apps side-by-side, according to a report from Bloombergโ€™s Mark Gurman. Gurman also reports that the outer display will be around the size of a small iPhone. The inner display will reportedly come with a wider aspect ratio, similar to Googleโ€™s first-generation Pixel Fold, but not foldable flagships currently on the market, like the Pixel Fold 10 or Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Though the updated layout could make multitasking easier, Gurman reports that the folding iPhone wonโ€™t run existing iPad apps. Still, Apple is reportedly trying to take advantage of the phoneโ€™s larger screen real estate by updating its โ€œcoreโ€ apps with a sidebar on the left side of the screen. It will also give developers the ability to make the iPhone versions of their eapps more iPad-like, according to Gurman.

Instead of using Face ID, Appleโ€™s foldable could integrate Touch ID into the deviceโ€™s side button, as the โ€œfront panel is too thin to accommodate the Face ID sensor array,โ€ Gurman reports. That means in place of the pill-shaped housing for the front-facing camera and Face ID, Apple will reportedly add a small-hole punch camera instead. Gurman has previously reported that the foldable could look like two iPhone Airs stuck together.

Even without the pill-shaped notch, Gurman reports that the folding iPhone will still include Appleโ€™s Dynamic Island feature, which lets users keep tabs on real-time events. The device will also reportedly have two rear cameras and a price tag of around $2,000.
