The โFast & Furiousโ TV series, first revealed to be in development earlier this year at the NBCUniversal upfronts, is closer to reality. Peacock announced Thursday that it has greenlit a new scripted television series based on the franchise.
Vin Diesel, who revealed that a โFast & Furiousโ scripted series was in development during the upfront presentation in May, is an executive producer along with One Raceโs Sam Vincent (One Race), Original Filmโs Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, and Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan Productionsโ Chris Morgan.
Mike Daniels (โSons of Anarchy,โ โShades of Blue,โ โThe Rockford Filesโ) and Wolfe Coleman (โShades of Blue,โ โ911: Lone Starโ) will serve as co-showrunners, pilot writers and executive producers.
According to Peacock, the streamer is looking to premiere the โFast & Furiousโ series by 2028.
Premiere would coincide with the next film installment, โFast Forever,โ which has been slated to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.
Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
โFor the last decade, we have realized that the fans have wanted more,โ Diesel said at the upfront in May. โThey wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space that Fallon has mastered. And I had to wait till it was rightโฆ It became right when Donna Langley started to oversee it all, because thatโs when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family would be protected in the TV spaceโฆ The news that I have here today is that Peacock is launching four shows from the โFast and Furiousโ universe.โ
Previously in TV, Netflix aired the animated series โFast & Furious Spy Racersโ for six seasons between 2019 and 2021.
In case youโre one of the few out there who doesnโt know what the โFast & Furiousโ franchise is about, hereโs NBCUโs explainer: โThis year marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of one of the most iconic film franchises in cinema history. On June 22, 2001, Universal Pictures released โThe Fast and the Furious,โ a high-octane thriller set amid the street-racing culture of Los Angeles. The film โ starring Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto, Paul Walker as Brian OโConner, Jordana Brewster as Mia and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty โ would ignite a cultural phenomenon.โ
