This Halloween, โSesame Streetโsโ beloved furry red monster is trading crayons for couture.
In a somewhat unexpected cultural crossover, Elmo for Halloween 2026 is dressing as fashion magazine editor-in-chief-from-hell Miranda Priestly, archly portrayed in the โThe Devil Wears Pradaโ movies by Oscar-winner Meryl Streep.
โGuess who Elmo is?โ he says in a video released by โSesame Street,โ before revealing his Miranda Priestly look.
In the video, a sentient pumpkin strolls in front of Elmo, prompting him to crack in character as Priestly: โPumpkins. For fall. How groundbreaking.โ Then Cookie Monster appears, prompting Elmo to snark about Cookieโs blue fur color: โWell, itโs not cerulean. But, it works.โ To which Cookie Monster responds: โUh, thanks? Me think?โ
Watch the video below โ which will certainly fly right over the heads of Elmoโs preschool fans.
In years past, Elmo in different โSesame Streetโ segments has dressed for Halloween as a spaceman known as โGalactic Stan,โ as well as a pirate and a witch. Meanwhile, Elmo himself continues to be a popular Halloween costume selection for kids and adults alike.
Streep starred in the original 2006 โThe Devil Wearโs Pradaโ movie alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, who once worked at Vogue and modeled the Miranda character on real-life fashion editor Anna Wintour. The quartet of actors reprised their characters in this yearโs sequel, โThe Devil Wears Prada 2,โ from 20th Century Studios.
