Tributes to the late great Dolly Parton are set to air across multiple TV networks.
CBS will air the CBS News special โDolly Parton โ An American Iconโ tonight (Aug. 25) from 10-11 p.m. ET/PT. It will also stream on Paramount+. Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil, CBS Newsโ senior culture and senior national correspondent Anthony Mason, and a team of CBS journalists will pay tribute to the legendary country music star. CBS News will also have a correspondent on location at Dollywood, in Pigeon Forge, TN.
Per CBS, the show will โshare new reports on the artist, whose work spans music, television, film and books, and pull from CBS Newsโ vast archives of interviews with Parton โ including a 2009 โ60 Minutesโ interview with Morley Safer, a 2023 CBS News โPerson-To-Personโ interview with Norah OโDonnell and interviews with Dokoupil and Mason โ and feature additional commentary from country musicโs biggest stars and those who knew her best.โ
In addition, fellow Paramount networks CMT, CMT Music, and Equal Play on Pluto TV will air Partonโs music videos beginning today through tomorrow morning. CMT is also planning a CMT Rememebers special to air at a later date, with network also planning to air Partonโs film โSteel Magnoliasโ beginning later this week.
It was revealed earlier today that Parton passed away at the age of 80 in Nashville. The announcement came on her official Instagram, with a video from her nephew Bryan Seaver on behalf of the Parton family.
The familyโs official obituary stated, โA rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Partonโs legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience.
