Brian Eno Relaunches Opal Records

Opal Records, the label founded by the legendary musician-producer Brian Eno in 1988, is returning after more than three decades. The relaunch is beginning with the reissue of two Eno albums: “Another Day on Earth” (2005) and his collaboration with J. Peter Schwalm, “Drawn From Life” (2001), both unavailable outside of Japan for nearly 20 years. New releases are also planned.

In its first run between 1988 and 1991, Opal released albums by Brian Eno, Roger Eno, Harold Budd, Laraaji, Djivan Gasparyan, Hugo Largo, Zvuki Mu, Daniel Lanois, Jon Hassell and John Cale. Eno put the label on hiatus in 1991 to concentrate on his own work, and the catalogue moved across to All Saints Records.

+ BeatBread, a music funding platform for independent artists, labels and songwriters, has named former TuneCore CEO Andreea Gleeson as its Chief Executive Officer. Maddux will continue to support the company through this leadership transition, and both he and Gleeson have been appointed to serve on the beatBread board of directors.

“What drew me to beatBread is that Peter and this team solved a real problem for independent artists: how to access growth capital without giving up ownership or control,” said Andreea Gleeson, CEO of beatBread. “They’ve built sophisticated technology and a funding model that consistently gives artists more choice. I’ve spent much of my career focused on what independent artists will need next, and access to better capital on artist-friendly terms is one of the most important opportunities ahead.”
