โDays of Thunderโ star Randy Quaid sounded off on Anne Hathaway after it was revealed that she has joined Tom Cruise in the racing dramaโs upcoming sequel.
โWe need Nicole [Kidman] back,โ Quaid wrote on X Saturday. โDonโt be a pussy, [Tom Cruise]. You need the original girl. Itโs not personal; itโs filmmaking. Anne isnโt sexy, because and if you havenโt noticed, sheโs pregnant.โ
He added in a follow-up post, โAnne Hathaway is a leftist, woke, horrible choice for โDAYS OF THUNDERโ NASCAR audience who are MAGA. The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole. Thatโs the casting that would sell the idea. Itโs interesting because when we made the first one there was also a rush to get it out; editors slept in the cutting room on shifts. This is a weird thing, like they want it to come out and tank.โ
Reps for Paramount and Hathaway did not immediately respond to Varietyโs request for comment.
In the original โDays of Thunder,โ Quaid played Tim Daland, the owner of the racing team that recruits Cruiseโs up-and-coming driver Cole Trickle. As noted by Quaid, Nicole Kidman played Dr. Claire Lewicki, the romantic lead in the film. Other cast members include Robert Duvall, Cary Elwes and John C. Reilly. Tony Scott served as director.
Variety exclusively reported Hathawayโs involvement in the โDays of Thunderโ sequel. Paramount has slated the film for a June 2028 theatrical release. The project was shot for Imax and will hit screens nearly 40 years after the original.
