Andrew Garfield isnโt ready to reach out to Tom Holland about the massive success of โSpider-Man: Brand New Dayโ or โThe Odyssey,โ for that matter.
For good reason โ he hasnโt seen either film.
โI donโt want to be disingenuous,โ Garfield told me Wednesday at the premiere of his historical action drama โThe Uprisingโ at the DGA in West Hollywood. โA movie making money and people going to see it is an incredible thing, but I will reach out to him once Iโve seen [โSpider-Manโ], which Iโm very excited to see. And his other film, โThe Odyssey,โ I havenโt managed to see either yet. I will send him a message when I see the work he has done.โ
Garfield, who played the web-slinger in two Spidey movies and reprised his role in โSpider-Man: Now Way Homeโ alongside Holland and fellow former โSpider-Manโ star Tobey Maguire.
But Garfield isnโt surprised that โSpider-Man: Brand New Dayโ has made a staggering $891 million at the domestic box office and is predicted to become the first movie to make $1 billion in North America alone.
โEveryone has ownership over him, heโs everybodyโs, and heโs decent and heโs good and heโs ordinary, and heโs extraordinary like all of us,โ Garfield said. โItโs impossible not to see yourself in that character.โ
And speaking of playing โSpider-Manโ again, Garfield once again insisted he wonโt be appearing โAvengers: Doomsday.โ โIโm not.โ he said when I asked if heโs in the upcoming MCU movie.
I reminded him that he has a reputation for not telling the truth because he lied about not being in โNo Way Home.โ โYouโll find out, I suppose, one way or another,โ Garfield said, smiling.
In Paul Greengrassโs โThe Uprising,โ Garfield plays a fictional character who becomes a leader during a rebellion of thousands of commoners against King Richard II in 1831.
Director Paul Greengrass told me Garfield insisted on doing most of his own stunts for the filmโs many fight scenes. โHe allowed me and what my could manage,โ Garfield said. โIโm not a young guy anymore. It was a lot of ice packs on the knees.โ
