Adam Pally to Star in New Zealand Comedy Series ‘The Sanctuary’


ā€œHappy Endingsā€ and ā€œThe Mindy Projectā€ star Adam Pally has been cast as the lead in ā€œThe Sanctuary,ā€ an upcoming comedy series from L.A.-based producers Happy Accidents and New Zealand’s Kevin & Co., as well as Warner Bros. Discovery’s New Zealand division.

In ā€œThe Sanctuary,ā€ Pally will star as ā€œan eccentric American billionaire hiding from the law in New Zealand who is forced to convert his lavish private island into a Department of Conservation sanctuary to avoid extradition.ā€

Joseph Moore and Laura Daniel created the eight-episode series, which has been picked up to air in New Zealand on Sky’s Three network, as well as on the streamer ThreeNow. There’s no word yet on distribution in the U.S.

Besides ā€œHappy Endingsā€ and ā€œThe Mindy Project,ā€ Pally also starred on series including ā€œMaking Historyā€ and ā€œIndebted,ā€ and also was an executive producer on Comedy Central’s ā€œThe President Show.ā€

Pally also launched his latest comedy special, ā€œAn Intimate Evening With Adam Pally,ā€ last October on HBO. He starred opposite Stephen Curry and Ego Nwodim in the Peacock comedy seriesĀ ā€œMr. Throwback,ā€ which he also executive produced, and appeared in Netflix’s ā€œFUBAR.ā€

In unscripted, he and Jon Gabrus starred in the travel‑comedy seriesĀ ā€œ101 Places to Party Before You Die.ā€ The collaborators also co‑host the SmartLess Media podcastĀ ā€œStaying Alive with Jon Gabrus and Adam Pally.ā€

Pally’s film credits include Paramount’sĀ ā€œSonic the Hedgehogā€Ā franchise (and the Paramount+ spin‑off seriesĀ ā€œKnucklesā€), as well as ā€œWho Invited Charlie?,ā€ Netflix/WWE Studiosā€™Ā ā€œThe Main Event,ā€Ā ā€œMost Likely to Murder,ā€ ā€œDog Days,ā€Ā ā€œBand Aid,ā€ ā€œIron Man 3,ā€ ā€œDirty Grandpaā€ and ā€œThe Little Hours.ā€

Upcoming projects include Sam Mendesā€™Ā ā€œThe Beatles — A Four‑Film Cinematic Event,ā€ where he’ll play controversial Beatles manager Allen Klein. He’ll also be in Madeline Sackler’s sci‑fi dramedyĀ ā€œO Horizon,ā€ as well as Melissa Miller’sĀ ā€œRunā€ and Steve Pink’sĀ ā€œWhat the Fck Is My Password.ā€

Happy Accidents was launched by Holly A. Hines (ā€œGinny & Georgiaā€) and former Motion Picture Corporation of America COO Eric Jarboe in 2024. Kevin & Co.’s credits include ā€œTaskmaster NZ.ā€
