“Bachelor in Paradise” is back. After taking a year off, the reality series returns with a new cast and some notable changes.
The most significant transformation? Season 10 marks the first time the spinoff series has departed from its typical shooting location of Mexico.
For nine seasons, “Bachelor in Paradise” called Mexico home — first in Tulum for Season 1, then settling into Sayulita’s Playa Escondida Resort for Seasons 2 through 9.
The change means the franchise’s famous crabs won’t be making their typical cameos. The show filmed during the land crabs’ migration from the jungle to the ocean to lay eggs, an annual event in Sayulita. The crabs became an unofficial mascot for the show.
What will this season bring? Find out.
Where was ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Season 10 filmed?
“Bachelor in Paradise” filmed in Azura Beach Resort, a four-star hotel on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, according to a preview in Entertainment Weekly.
What’s different at the new resort?
According to Azura Beach Resort’s website, the all-inclusive, adults-only hotel is located on Playa Sámara, a bay in the Pacific Ocean. Playa Sámara is about five hours from Costa Rica’s main airport in San José.
The Costa Rican location offers amenities the Mexican resort didn’t have — starting with air conditioning. Previously, “Bachelor in Paradise” stars stayed in open air bungalows without AC.
Entertainment Weekly’s preview of the room setup shows the “Bachelor in Paradise” cast stayed in rooms that open out to a private pool.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Scott Teti went into detail about what the hotel offered — beyond the “sexy chicness” he said it has.
“The cast can literally open the doors to their rooms and swim out into the pool under bridges, and then up to a beautiful bar that is touching the beach. It has amazing views. The beach itself is private and unique. There’s a beautiful island right off it with a bunch of fishing boats that surround it every day, with a quaint little town right next door, but not a ton of foot traffic. It feels remote and upscale and sexy at the same time,” Teti said.
Did the cast share rooms?
According to Teti, each cast member bunked with a roommate while filming. There was, however, a VIP Room where the cast could get a little privacy — the Boom Boom Room by a different name.
“Bachelor in Paradise” starts on Monday, July 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
