Jason Momoa has got a whole new look โ and he’s not the biggest fan of it.
In a joint Instagram video post with his company Mananalu Water, Momoa could be seen carefully shaving off his beard with a razor while he stood outside.
โGoddammit, I hate it,โ he said, looking at the finished result.
The โAquamanโ star revealed he was shaving off his beard for the first time in six years as part of the preparation for his upcoming return to the โDuneโ franchise.
โThis is the kickoff, ‘Dune 3,'” he said, before referencing “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve by saying, โOnly for you, Denis.”
During an March 31 appearance on TODAY, Momoa revealed he would reprise his role as the clean-shaven Duncan Idaho, a swordmaster of House Atreides and mentor to Timothรฉe Chalametโs Paul Atreides, in โDune: Part Three.โ Momoa’s character was killed off in 2021’s “Dune,” and did not return in the 2024 sequel.
Speaking to TODAY’s Craig Melvin, Momoa confirmed he would be โmaking a comeback.โ
When asked if he would return in the same way as depicted in Frank Herbertโs six-part โDuneโ book series, which shows Duncan Idaho resurrected in the form of a clone, Momoa did not offer much insight.
โWell, Iโm not sure if Iโm going to get in trouble or not, but itโs the same thing like โGame of Thronesโ, you know what I mean?โ Momoa said. โIf you didnโt read the books, itโs not my fault, right? Yeah, thereโs going to be โฆ Iโm going to be coming back.โ
While โDuneโ fans will have to wait until Dec. 2026 to see Momoa’s official return to the franchise, they did not hold back their thoughts on his new clean-shaven look in the comment section of his post.
“Am I the only one who likes ‘no beard’ ?? ๐,” one person wrote.
Another said, โGreat you look so handsome omg Jason why do you hide your beautiful face ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฅโค๏ธ๐ฅ๐๐โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ.โ
Some fans begged to differ, with one sharing three simple words about his beardless look: โPut it back ๐.โ
One fan, who noted his upcoming film, wrote, “๐ฎโค๏ธ Dune 3 is coming! You look handsome either way, I am a huge fan of the beard however! ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ
And another weighed in, writing, “I like you better with a beard, you look more mature and serious. But work is work. And if you have to shave for the shoot, thatโs okay too. Without a beard, you look young and daring.”
The last time Momoa was seen shaving off his beard was in 2019 when he did a YouTube video to try and get people to “switch to INFINITELY RECYCLABLE aluminum.”
“Letโs make a positive change for the health of our planet. Letโs clean up our oceans and our land. Join me on this journey. Letโs make a switch to INFINITELY RECYCLABLE aluminum. Water in cans, NOT plastic,” he said.
