โ€˜SNLโ€™ Weekend Update Brutally Mocks Trump for Losing Nobel Peace Prize

Following a clunky cold open, host Shane Gillisโ€™s flop of a monologue and the comic dropping an accidental F-bomb during a Dr. Seuss sketch, audiences were treated to another edition of โ€œSaturday Night Liveโ€™sโ€ Weekend Update, featuring Colin Jost and Michael Che. And things kicked off with Jost needling one of his favorite targets, President Trump.

โ€œUnfortunately, we have to start tonight with a tragic developing story involving President Trump (no, not that): Itโ€™s that President Trump has sadly not won the Nobel Peace Prize. I know, I know. But donโ€™t worry, I think heโ€™s taking it all in stride.โ€

Jost then threw to a clip of Trump at a rally whining about not being awarded the Nobel, declaring, โ€œThe Nobel Prize was given out today by a liberal person who works at the United Nations who nobody has ever heard of!โ€

Yes, thatโ€™s right: Navi Pillay, a South African human rights advocate, was awarded this yearโ€™s Nobel Peace Prize. According to CNN, Pillay โ€œwas integral to the anti-apartheid movement, served as a judge on the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and recently led the UN commission that concluded Israel committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.โ€ The decision has also drawn criticism from Israelโ€™s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

โ€œHeโ€™s genuinely angry that he didnโ€™t win the Peace Prize!โ€ exclaimed Jost. โ€œTrump kidnapped Venezuelaโ€™s president, then he did so much war that weโ€™re running out of missiles, and he still thought, โ€˜This is my year!โ€™ Itโ€™s truly like if I thought I might win an Oscar for โ€˜Tom & Jerry.โ€™โ€

Then Che joined in on the fun. โ€œNavi Pillay, who learned she won the Nobel Peace Prize at a conference in Germany, joked with the crowd that if they clap a little more, she may share this prize with Trump โ€” which is a harmless little joke that may make Trump bomb whatever country he thinks sheโ€™s from.โ€
