Jon Stewart Says the World Cup Final Was the ‘Reverse Super Bowl’

On Monday nightโ€™s episode of โ€œThe Daily Show,โ€ Jon Stewart gave his post-game thoughts about Sundayโ€™s World Cup final match, which saw Spain win out over Argentina 1-0.

โ€œOf course, the World Cup ended yesterday, finito, with Spain defeating Argentina 1-0 on the pitch, in the footy,โ€ Stewart said at the top of the show. โ€œThe Spain-Argentina final was like a reverse Super Bowl, where the players spoke Spanish, and the halftime show was in English.โ€

The World Cup final halftime show, the first in the tournamentโ€™s history, featured Madonna, Justin Bieber and the Muppets. Stewart took note of โ€œSesame Streetโ€™sโ€ The Count, who was there to celebrate the match along with Kermit and Miss Piggy.

โ€œYou got all the Muppets to choose from, why would in Godโ€™s name make the vampire work during the day?โ€ Stewart joked. โ€œNot only is it in the bright glare of the afternoon sun, but for most of the game, the score was 0-0! Youโ€™re taunting this poor bastard! โ€˜I sat in traffic for one, two, three hours for this.โ€™โ€

Stewart then, of course, shifted his attention to President Donald Trumpโ€™s presence at the game. He honed in on an awkward moment where Trump lingered on stage to be part of the trophy hoist, a moment usually reserved for โ€œjust the players.โ€

โ€œWhat the fuck are you doing on the stage?โ€ Stewart exclaimed. โ€œItโ€™s for the players! Goddamn! Why must everything be tainted by the overinflated ego of Cankles Muldoon? Why?โ€
