Olivia Wilde recently told the โCall Her Daddyโ podcast that Pamela Anderson helped her through the release of her 2022 film โDonโt Worry Darling,โ which was plagued with rumors of disarray in the directorโs personal and professional life.
โI actually learned this from โ this sounds so crazy,โ Wilde said. โBut after I saw the documentary [โPamela, A Love Storyโ] I reached out to her, and I was like, โYo, respect. Just want to say big fan.โโ
Wilde remembered that Anderson was โaware of some of the shit that I was going through,โ and told her in the face of public scrutiny, โThe most rebellious thing you can do is stay soft. Donโt let it harden you.โ
Anderson, who had her own fair share of scandals throughout her career, was, in some ways, able to reclaim her narrative through the release of Netflixโs โPamela, A Love Story.โ It hit the streamer about four months after โDonโt Worry Darlingโ came to theaters.
โIt was so hard, because I wanted to be like, โCan I just talk to people? Can I just go and say, โThatโs not true! Thatโs not true!โโ Wilde recalled. โAnd it was like, โNo, that wonโt help.โ And that was really hard.โ
Wilde said staying quiet was especially difficult because she wanted to promote the film on behalf of her cast and crew.
โI was like, โItโs not about me. Itโs about this movie that everyone works so hard to make,โโ Wilde explained. โAnd I felt like I was working on behalf of hundreds of people who had worked through Covid to make something really difficult.โ
โI felt frustrated that I couldnโt defend myself, but it also felt like, โOkay, itโs not about you. Just get the movie out,โโ she added. โAnd the pummeling that I took was so insanely disproportionate.โ
