On Monday nightโs episode of โThe Daily Show,โ Jon Stewart poked fun at President Donald Trumpโs Freedom 250 concert series after more than half the acts dropped out.
โMan, I need good news. I need some relief. And Iโll tell you why,โ Stewart said at the top of his monologue. โBecause as many of you know, that big Freedom 250 concert that Iโve been looking forward toโฆ has run into some problems.โ
Stewart then cut to a clip of NBC News, which reported that five of the nine musical artists slated to perform at Freedom 250 have dropped out, citing โpolitical concerns.โ Those who exited the event include Martina McBride, Young MC, The Commodores, Morris Day and Bret Michaels.
The mass exodus of acts prompted Stewart to ask, โIs anyone still performing?โ The answer came in the form of an enthusiastic TikTok from rapper Vanilla Ice, who exclaimed in his post, โAmerica is turning 250! Iโm super honored to do this concert with everybody. We are gonna bring back the โ90s.โ
โThere you go!โ Stewart exclaimed. โSee? Everybody dropped out, but not Vanilla Ice. Vanilla Ice didnโt drop out. He saw a problem, and yo, he solved it.โ
After Freedom 250 started falling apart, Trump took to Truth Social to declare he wanted to โcancel it,โ although it wasnโt clear if he was referring to the entire concert series or just the shows with the artists who backed out. He also took the opportunity to make digs at the โcrooked judgesโ who have ruled against him in his pursuit of control of the Kennedy Center.
โCancel it,โ Trump wrote on Saturday night, โjust like I canceled my involvement with the failing and unsafe to be in Kennedy Center, because a Highly Conflicted, Crooked Federal Judge, said that I should not be allowed to spend my time and money in order to MAKE THE CENTER GREAT AGAIN, actually, far greater than it ever was before! It would have also been nice to see a Republican/Democrat union bring it back to life. The Kennedy Center is broken, unsafe, and $busted, and has been for many years! Judge Cooper also stated that the highly prestigious Board of the Center was not authorized to add on the name โTRUMPโ despite the fact that hundreds of millions of dollars of my time and money will be necessary for its successful reincarnation. So now, the Kennedy Center will collapse, both structurally and financially. Judge Cooper and his wife, Amy Jeffress (obfuscation anyone?), should be ashamed of themselves. Judge Cooper, like numerous other Crooked Judges on my cases, should be IMPEACHED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN President DONALD J. TRUMP.โ
