Kristen Stewart recently told โEntertainment Tonightโ that she โwould loveโ to direct a reboot of โTwilight,โ the 2008 vampire romantasy film that launched her career.
โI would love โ look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,โ Stewart said. โThey were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didnโt really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.โ
Stewart said ideally, she would receive a โhuge budgetโ and โa bunch of love and supportโ from fans for the hypothetical project.
โYeah, sure, Iโll do the remake,โ she added. โIโm doing it! Iโm committed!โ
Stewart starred in the โTwilightโ franchise alongside Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. The 2008 original spawned four sequels: 2009โs โNew Moon,โ 2010โs โEclipse,โ 2011โs โBreaking Dawn โ Part 1โ and 2012โs โBreaking Dawn โ Part 2.โ The series grossed more than $3 billion in total at the worldwide box office.
While Stewart is happy to return to Forks, Wash., Pattinson may not be so quick to buy in. He told GQ in 2022 that he spent much of his time on the โTwilightโ set โinfuriatedโ because the studio did not agree with his vision of the film.
โI wanted to make it as arty as possible,โ Pattinson said at the time. โWe had this strange tension where the studio was scared to make things a little bit too emo and stuff. I thought that was the only way to play it. I spent so much time [on set] infuriatedโฆ I canโt believe the way I was acting half the time.โ
Stewart recently made her directorial debut with โThe Chronology of Water.โ Starring Imogen Poots, Thora Birch and Jim Belushi, the film follows a woman who copes with her childhood trauma through swimming and the written word. The film landed Stewart on Varietyโs annual 10 Directors to Watch for 2026.
