Film lovers know Martin Scorsese is one of the industry’s most seasoned and respected directors, but even he seems to have become emotional when he received his first Emmy nomination for acting on July 15.
The 82-year-old filmmaker was nominated in the outstanding guest actor in a comedy series category for his performance in the Apple TV+ comedy “The Studio.”
Martin Scorsese’s youngest daughter, Francesca Scorsese, 25, shared a photo in her Instagram story that showed her father appearing emotional about the milestone.
The image, a screenshot the younger Scorsese grabbed from a FaceTime call with her father, showed the “Goodfellas” director covering his eyes with his hands.
In the upper corner, his proud daughter could be seen smiling over her father’s unexpected honor.
Martin Scorsese, who played a wackier version of himself in the first episode of “The Studio,” competes in the category against Jon Bernthal for a guest appearance on “The Bear,” and four other actors who also made guest appearances on “The Studio:” Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Anthony Mackie and former “Happy Days” star Ron Howard, who, like Martin Scorsese, has been known primarily as a director for decades.
Francesca Scorsese shared an image of all six contenders and tagged her father. “Our little actor,” she wrote lovingly, adding a hands-making-a-heart emoji.
Martin Scorsese has been nominated for a handful of Emmys in the past, but never before for acting.
He won his first Emmy in 2011 for directing an episode of the drama series “Boardwalk Empire.” The following year, he picked up two more Emmys for directing and producing the documentary “George Harrison: Living in the Material World.”
Francesca Scorsese’s sweet tributes are hardly the first time she’s featured her dad in her social media posts.
In October 2023, she challenged her father to guess the meaning of contemporary slang words in a hilarious TikTok video she titled “Dad Guesses Slang.”
In March 2024, she shared two videos in her Instagram story that showed her father gleefully reacting to Ryan Gosling’s live performance of his “Barbie” anthem “I’m Just Ken” at the 2025 Academy Awards.
In the videos, Martin Scorsese, who was nominated that year for his thriller “Killers of the Flower Moon,” could be seen laughing and clapping during Gosling’s over-the-top performance.
“This is the best video ever. @martinscorsese_,” the doting daughter captioned the fun clip.

The “Taxi Driver” director, who’s been married five times, is also dad to two older daughters: Cathy Scorsese, 59, whom he shares with his first wife, Laraine Brennan; and Domenica Cameron-Scorsese, 48, whom he shares with his second wife Julia Cameron.
