Jean Smart Temporarily out of ‘Call Me Izzy’ Due to Injury

Jean Smart is taking a break from her one-woman Broadway show, “Call Me Izzy,” after sustaining a knee injury.

The Broadway production shared an update about the “Hacks” star on Instagram on July 8.

“Jean Smart has injured her knee, and we look forward to having her back on stage as soon as she recovers,” the post read.

Smart, 73, reposted the message on her Instagram story, adding, “Thank you so much for all of the well wishes,” with a bandaged heart emoji.

“Looking forward to a speedy recovery!” she wrote.

The Broadway show said two-time Tony Award nominee Johanna Day will play the role of Izzy from July 8 to 11.

The production’s 12-week run at Studio 54 is scheduled to end Aug. 17.

“Call Me Izzy” follows a woman who is trapped in an abusive marriage and finds solace through poetry. Smart’s role as Izzy marks her first Broadway appearance since 2000, when she last was on the stage for a revival of “The Man Who Came to Dinner.”

When she’s not onstage, Smart is known for her Emmy-winning role as Deborah Vance, a legendary comedian struggling to reinvent her stand-up routine, on the hit HBO show “Hacks.”
