Whoopi Goldberg and her daughter had a deja vu moment at the 2025 Oscars.
The actor and host of โThe Viewโ was joined by her daughter, actor and film producer Alex Martin Dean, on the red carpet ahead of the 97th annual Academy Awards on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Goldberg, 69, wore a floor-length blue gown and Dean, 51, beamed in a black dress as mother and daughter walked the red carpet.
The last time the two walked the Oscars red carpet together was in 1991, when Goldberg took home the best supporting actress award for her portrayal of a psychic in the supernatural drama โGhost.โ
โI brought my kid and now sheโs with me again,โ Goldberg said on the red carpet on March 2. โItโs all good.โ
One of Goldberg’s former “Ghost” costars was also in attendance; Demi Moore is nominated for her first Oscar for “The Substance.” Goldberg is at the ceremony to present an award.
Dean is Goldberg’s daughter with her first husband, Alvin Martin, whom she divorced in 1979. Goldberg was 18 when she welcomed her daughter.
Dean spoke to TheGrio.com about the struggles she and her mother endured before Goldberg became a Hollywood star.
โI know what itโs like with the food stamps, because my mom has her (welfare) cards framed,โ she said. โI remember we had the one room space and we slept in the bed together.โ
Goldberg and Dean also made a mother-daughter appearance together in July 2024 to celebrate the launch of Goldbergโs cannabis line.
Dean also appeared as a guest on โThe Viewโ in 2016, with her mother calling her โone of the most trustworthy and loyal people I know.โ
โShe is somebody who makes me laugh,โ Goldberg continued. โWe can talk to each other any time during the day or night. I just like her a lot.โ
While โGhostโ is Goldbergโs lone Oscar win, she has a long history with the ceremony. She has hosted the show four times, which is tied for the fourth-most of any host in Academy Awards history.
