Where else could Jenna Bush Hager and bodega guys who call you “boss” be nominated for the same award? The Las Culturistas Culture Awards.
The Las Culturistas Culture Awards celebrate pop culture’s most iconic events of the year, with a little bit of nonsense and whimsy too โ like Jenna’s nomination for the TODAY show award for excellence in the morning.
TODAY viewers may remember the awards show’s hosts, “Saturday Night Live” star Bowen Yang and comedian Matt Rogers, as two of Jenna’s guest co-hosts on TODAY with Jenna & Friends this year.
Jenna and her former fourth hour co-host, Hoda Kotb, won the award in 2024. This year marks the fourth iteration of the awards show, named after Yang and Rogers’ “Las Culturistas” podcast, and will be televised for the first time.
But avid fans of the show and podcast may have noticed photos of Yang, Rogers and plenty of presenters and nominees from the show’s red carpet July 17.
Here’s what to know about the Las Culturistas Culture Awards and how to watch the show.
What Is ‘Las Culturistas’?
“Las Culturistas” is a podcast hosted by Yang and Rogers, where the pair discuss the latest in pop culture, often with a guest.
Yang and Rogers released the first episode of their podcast in 2016 and have had many guests, including Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Most episodes of the podcast begin with the question, โWhat was the culture that made you say, โCulture is for me?โโ and move to the guest’s “Rules of Culture.”
Yang and Rogers close out the show with a segment called “I Don’t Think So, Honey,” where they, along with their guest, are given 60 seconds to rant about an element of culture that they find annoying or frustrating.
What Are the Las Culturistas Culture Awards?
The Las Culturistas Culture Awards is Yang and Rogers’ awards show where they celebrate excellence in culture, with a lot of silliness along the way.
The fourth annual installment of the show is set to have “more than 100 unique award categories,” according to a press release. There will also be live musical performances and “unexpected celebrity guests,” all while being televised for the first time.
โThe word โcultureโ is defined as โthe arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively,โโ Rogers and Yang said in a statement.
โWe are so thrilled to eliminate that whole โintellectualโ part entirely with the LCCAโs airing on Bravo and Peacock this August, alongside our partners at Lionsgate,” the pair added. “Because while what the world needs now might be love sweet love, it also needs to see an Oscar winning actress and a Real Housewife come together to present a very heavy award to Oprah, if we can book her. Oprah, u up?!โ
The “Las Culturistas” Instagram account announced the first batch of categories for the 2025 awards show July 1 and featured nominees for awards like hypochondriac award for illness we think we have this time and the secret to life award.
Jenna faces the following contenders in her category: My girl Nanda at the coffee shop that I see each day; Bodega guys that call you “Boss”; sex, at times; and muffin.
Additional categories were announced July 11, including most amazing impact in film, best Batman woman, the Allison Williams cool girl award and many more.
When Are the Las Culturistas Culture Awards?
The show was taped July 17 in Los Angeles, and images and videos from the red carpet quickly hit social media.
Celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis, Andy Cohen, Kenan Thompson and cast members from “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” were spotted on the carpet ahead of the taping.
After the show, Cohen posted about the event on his Instagram, calling it “the most entertaining, funniest award show in a long time.”
