While Ariana Grande may not have descended from the sky in a bubble, she definitely rocked the Glinda spirit at the 2025 Oscars, sporting a dress seemingly inspired by the character.
Throughout the โWickedโ press tour and award season, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have been sticking consistently to their charactersโ signature colors โ Glindaโs pink and Elphabaโs green, respectively.
Looking ahead to the Oscars, where โWickedโ was up for 10 awards, fans guessed at what the duo might wear to the red carpet โ and at least two got it right.
Content creator Abbey Bonadies said in a Jan. 28 TikTok that if Grande wore one standout dress from Schiaparelliโs Spring 2025 Couture Collection to the Oscars, โshe would be, hands down, the best dressed at the Oscars.โ
Writer and actor Christian Weissmann also tweeted his guess on Feb. 1. โNeed ariana grande to wear this to the oscars or else,โ he said, along with a picture of the same Schiaparelli gown.
Grande affirmed both predictions on March 2, when she showed up to the Oscars red carpet in what seemed to be a custom piece modeled off of Look 3 from the Schiaparelli 2025 Spring Couture Collection.
Grandeโs dress was slightly different than the one originally modeled, which was more orange than pick and missing the sparkles on Grandeโs.
โIโm guessing they made this custom for her. The fit on this bodice is almost impossible to do,โ designer Christian Siriano said on the E! red carpet on March 2.
Schiaparelliโs website described the garment as a bustier dress made in alternating duchess satin and nude tulle, and partially inspired by a lamp designed by Alberto Giacometti.
Speaking to TODAY.com, Bonadies said that when she first saw the Schiaparelli collection on the Vogue Runway, โsomething about it just screamed Ariana.โ
โKnowing the Oscars is the most formal of awards shows and that it was such a big deal for Ariana, I knew this look had to be special,โ she told TODAY.com over email. After following Grandeโs entire โWickedโ awards show circuit, Bonadies said the Schiaparelli dress fit into the pattern.
โAriana has been wearing tons of muted, neutral tones lately, and the majority of her dresses are strapless tops with full skirts,โ Bonadies said.
Bonadies had observed the evolution of Grandeโs looks from the โWickedโ press tour in November into awards season in 2025, noticing she and her stylist Mimi Cuttrell used different color palettes for different situations.ย
Bonadies said that for โWickedโ-centric events, like the premiere, Grande opted to lean โmuch further into her Glinda character โ wearing more pinks and sparkles.โย
During awards shows, where Grande was being individually recognized as an artist, she leaned more into her own personal styles, which Bonadies called โless obviously Glinda-inspired but still aligned.โ
โI thought this Oscars look was the perfect finale to the press tour part one โ it had all the elements that made both Ariana as an actress and as her character shine,โ she said.
Grande has worn Schiaparelli multiple times, so this particular dress felt like a โmatch made in heaven.โ
When Bonadies realized she got her prediction about Grandeโs dress right, she said she โfelt so excited.โ
โI was watching the carpet with my husband and two best friends and literally screamed โ sorry to our apartment neighbors! I felt really proud of myself for nailing it, but I also felt so excited for Ariana and Mimi knowing sheโd easily be the best dressed of the evening,โ she said.
Awards season is over, but Grandeโs Glinda inspired looks are far from done. Since โWickedโ was only a Part 1, thereโs still another movie, press tour and potential awards season for Grande to pull out more looks relating to the Good Witch.
Bonadies said she has โideas flowingโ for what Grande might wear.
โSince Glinda and the rest of the cast are older in the second act of the musical, I definitely think weโll see some more mature looks as the tour goes on,โ she said.
โIn terms of color palette, Iโd imagine she will start weaving in some more white dresses (as a nod to the wedding dress Glinda wears) and some more blue looks,โ she said, perhaps as a nod to the blue dress Glinda wears in the musical.
Now, one can only wait and see to see if Bonadies is, once again, correct.
