HBO’s upcoming “Harry Potter” TV show is starting to feel a lot more real now that filming has started.
On July 14, the network shared a photo of Dominic McLaughlin in character as Harry Potter to mark the first day of filming in London. A snap of Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid followed on July 15.
The network has released names of the cast in batches over the course of the year. This is the first time, however, we’re seeing the actors in their Hogwarts garb.
Below, see the cast of “Harry Potter” side-by-side with the actors from the original movie series, which started in 2001 and concluded in 2011.
Harry Potter (Dominic McLaughlin and Daniel Radcliffe)
On July 14, the network released a photo of Dominic McLaughlin in costume as Harry Potter.
In the photo, a smiling McLaughlin holds up a clapperboard that commemorated a major moment for the TV series: The first take of the first scene of the first episode.
The young actor bears a striking resemblance to Daniel Radcliffe, who originated the role of the Boy Who Lived when โHarry Potter and the Sorcererโs Stoneโ was first released in 2001.
The wardrobe will be familiar to fans of the franchise. McLaughlin wears a Hogwarts robe and his signature round glasses. A lightning bolt-shaped forehead scar and tousled black hair finish off the look.
Rubeus Hagrid (Nick Frost and Robbie Coltrane)
A day later, on July 15, the network released a photo of Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Hogwarts’ lovable gamekeeper and groundskeeper who takes Harry under his wing when he first joins the school of witchcraft and wizardry.
Robbie Coltrane, who died in 2022, originated the role.
In the picture, Frost sports Hagrid’s signature long brown locks, luscious beard and majestic mustache. He also wears a sporty green coat that looks just like something the gentle giant would rock.
