PSG clinches another French football title, extending dominance over Ligue 1

PSG players celebrate their victory over Angers, marking the club's 13th French championship title, at Parc des Princes, on April 5, 2025.

It is now official, and it comes as no surprise. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was crowned French football champion for the 13th time in its history on Saturday, April 5, following their (1 – 0) win against Angers at the Parc des Princes. Luis Enrique’s players celebrated this second title of the season in front of their supporters, after winning the French Champions Trophy against Monaco (1-0) on January 5 in Doha, Qatar.

At the end of this 28th matchday, the French capital’s club had 74 points in the league standing, far ahead of their closest contender, AS Monaco, who trail them by 24 points (before their match in Brest this Saturday at 7 pm). This overwhelming lead allows PSG to be crowned six games before the league championship ends. Only the Zlatan Ibrahimovic PSG era had done better during the 2015-2016 season, which secured the championship as early as March 13, with eight matches still to play.

This new French championship title – their fourth in a row and 11th since the club was acquired by the Qatari sovereign fund Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) in 2011 – has felt inevitable and a non-event given PSG’s complete domination this season. Ousmane Dembélé’s teammates excelled from the first matchday (winning 1-4 in Le Havre), facing no real challenger to contest their supremacy. Their superiority in all areas made it seem as if, nationally, there was Paris – far too strong – and the rest, who see second place as the ultimate goal, given that the first seems unreachable.
