Pete Davidson is opening up about his tattoo removal process.
On the Jan. 31 episode of TODAY, Davidson, 31, revealed why he wanted to get his 100+ tattoos removed from his body.
“I got sober and I saw myself in the mirror, and I was like nah. I was like, I need to change it up a little bit,” he said.
The former โSaturday Night Liveโ star has slowly been lasering off his tattoos since 2020. On TODAY, he showed off a piece of his arm and said the tattoos that were there are almost gone.
“Wow. It really is,” TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie said after seeing the progress.
As for how much it hurts to get your tattoos removed, Davidson said that it feels “pretty terrible.”
“So, if anybody is out there watching and thinking about getting a tattoo, just make sure you really want to get it,” he said.
The “Dog Man” star used to have tattoos covering his body, including one of Winnie the Pooh and another of Hillary Clinton. In 2020, Davidson reportedly announced that he was getting his tattoos removed during a Q&A for his film,ย “The King of Staten Island.”
Film criticย Mike McGranaghan, who had been in a panel with the cast, confirmed the news on X.
He wrote, “Just attended a virtual Q&A with the Judd Apatow and the cast of THE KING OF STATEN ISLAND. And hereโs a scoop: Pete Davidson is in the process of getting all his tattoos removed!”
Davidson later confirmed the news himself during a May 2021 appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” where he said he wanted to remove them for his career.
โI honestly never thought that I would get the opportunity to act and I love it a lot,โ he said at the time. โYou have to get there three hours earlier to cover all your tattoos, because for some reason, people in movies, they donโt have that much.โ
In July of that same year, Davidson gave fans an update on his tattoo removal process in an interview withย People TVย and said heโs already seeing results on one of his hands.
โThey said by the time Iโm 30, they should all be gone,โ he said. โSo they got, like, two more years left of this.โ
