Perrie Edwards is speaking for the first time about her two miscarriages before and after her son’s birth, including one that occured during her second trimester.
The Little Mix alum spoke to host Paul C. Brunson of the โWe Need To Talkโ podcast about her experience, explaining her first, โvery earlyโ miscarriage happened within her first trimester.
Edwards revealed that she left her doctor’s appointment confused.
โI remember going in to see my gynecologist with the reports and I was like, โcan you just explain to me? So, there was no baby?โโ she said.
โHe was like, โno, no, no, my darling. Youโve had a miscarriage,โโ she recalled.
She had her โrainbow babyโ Axel in 2021, an experience she descrfibes as โthe happiest times of my life.โ
โI just love carrying babies,โ Edwards said, reflecting on her โperfectโ pregnancy with Axel.
โWhen you birth something thatโs just half of you and half of them, itโs like, this magical being, isnโt it?โ she continued.
โItโs the best feeling in the world,โ she added.
Less than a year after having her son Axel, Edwards said she became pregnant during the last Little Mix tour.
โEvery night before a show, I kept bleeding,โ Edwards revealed.
โI was heavily bleeding, and I remember sitting, thinking, โThis is it. Iโve lost the baby. Itโs happening.โ And then I went to a scan the next day or something and the baby was still there,โ she said, calling this moment โa miracle.โ
Despite the bleeding, the singer kept touring and performing.
โI was thinking, โOh my gosh, I canโt cancel the show. I have to go out. I have to put a brave face on; I have to keep my s— together. Hopefully itโs just the blood clot,โโ she recalled.
Her second miscarriage occurred at 24 weeks; she found out when she went to the doctor after returning from Portugal with her fiancรฉe, soccer player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
โI just knew something was wrong in the scan,โโ Edwards recalled.
โI just looked to Alex, and I thought, โSomethingโs not right,โโ she said, calling this day the โworst day of my lifeโ and a โhorrendousโ day.
Though the doctor started to explain the situation, Edward doesnโt recall much, saying that the โslo-moโ moment felt โlike in the movies.โ
โI remember him just saying these things, but I donโt remember what he said. Iโve never experienced an out-of-body experience,โ she said.
โI think when youโre fully carrying and youโre 24 weeks, and youโve planned out their room and all these things, itโs really hard,โ she added.
The singer also highlighted her fiancรฉโs experience of grief, praising his empathy towards her throughout her healing journey.
โThrough that whole situation, he was like, โItโs not about me. Itโs not about me. Itโs about you.โ And Iโm like, โNo, but itโs about us. You have feelings in this too, itโs your baby too,โโ she said, reenacting the conversation they had after the miscarriages.
โAnd heโs like, โYeah, but Iโm not going through it the way you are. I donโt have to do all these things. I just hate not being able to help.โ And Iโm like, โBut you are helping, because youโre there and youโre here, and weโre navigating it together,โโ she added.
