Five years later, Niecy Nash still has thoughts on what Colman Domingo chose to wear to officiate her third wedding.
While reminiscing about her wedding to musician Jessica Betts on TODAY with Jenna & Friends on June 24, the actor told Jenna Bush Hager that “none other than the Colman Domingo” officiated the occasion.
But the Jenna & Friends guest co-host revealed what she “never forgave” Domingo, an Oscar-nominated actor, for doing the day of her wedding.
Nash is not a fan of the bright yellow and black ensemble “The Color Purple” star donned for the ceremony. The outfit is visible in the post Nash shared when she first announced the wedding.
“He just looked like a beautiful bumblebee,” the comedian lovingly joked.
The August 2020 ceremony took place in Nash’s backyard and had only 24 attendees, she told Jenna.
What did the “Claws” actress say when Domingo showed up to officiate the intimate occasion in a bright yellow suit?
โI said, ‘You look like a fool. What do you have on? What are you wearing?'” Nash revealed.
Lately, the award show darling has been applauded for his red carpet looks. Domingo was also a co-chair of the 2025 Met Gala. Nash joked that she wishes the actor had his current eye for style when she said her vows.
โNow, he’s a fashion guru,” Nash laughed. “How come that didnโt happen before my wedding?โ
A simpler choice would have been better for the big day, she said.
โYouโre my officiant. You donโt got black slacks laying around?โ she laughed.
The star’s teasing, however, is all in good fun.
โBut I love him. I love you Coleman,โ Nash said, holding up her hands in the shape of a heart.
Nashโs relationship with Betts started as friendship but eventually blossomed into an unexpected romance, she recalled in a conversation on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna in 2021.
โIf you are open to it, love can come from unexpected places,โ Nash said during her previous TODAY appearance. โAnd Iโve never had a dear friend and then ended up dating them, so this is my first time.โ
The couple married months after Nash divorced her second husband, Jay Tucker, in 2019.
โThis is, by far, the greatest love of my life,โ she said in 2021. โAnd part of that is because, for me, itโs the first time that I feel fully seen.โ
