Niecy Nash-Betts is a proud “card-carrying member” of the LGBTQ+ community.
On the June 24 episode of TODAY with Jenna & Friends, Nash-Betts recalled her love story with her wife, Jessica Betts, and revealed how their relationship is different from her previous marriages.
Nash-Betts was previously married to Jay Tucker from 2011 to 2020. Before that, she was married to Don Nash, whom she divorced from in 2007.

“The first two times I was married, I was married to men and now I’m married to a woman. And I don’t think it’s about the gender that makes it special. It’s just, I met my soulmate,” she said while acting as a guest co-host on the show. “I wasn’t living a sexually repressed life where I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I really want to be married to a woman.’ No, I just met the most beautiful soul.”
“I never thought I would be a part of the community. I was adjacent. I was an ally, but now I’m a card-carrying member,” she added.
Nash-Betts joked that she thought she was going to receive a “package,” “manual” or nice housewarming gift from her friends when she became part of the LGBTQ+ community. However, she joked that her friends didn’t get her anything at all.
“I got nothing, guys. Nothing!” she laughed.
Nash-Betts and Betts wed in 2020 in a beautiful backyard ceremony. She first revealed the wedding news in an Instagram post, with a photo of her and her wife walking down the aisle on their wedding day. In the snap, Colman Domingo, their wedding officiant, is seen standing and cheering them on.
“Mrs. Carol Denise Betts 💍 ,” the “Reno 911!” star captioned the post.
