Liv Tyler is recalling the moment that she learned Aerosmith frontman, Steven Tyler, was her dad.
On the April 13 episode of Kate Hudson’s “Sibling Revelry” podcast, Liv Tyler said she found out who her biological dad was after her mom, Bebe Buell, took her to an Aerosmith concert when she was “11 or 12.”
Liv Tyler explained that she knew something was up once her mother started crying at the event. Up until that moment, she said she believed that musician Todd Rundgren, the man who raised her, was her birth father.
“I looked at my mom, and I was like, ‘Mom?’ And she just started crying. My mom just, like, falled. And I was like, ‘Is Steven my dad?’ And she just burst (into tears),” Liv Tyler recalled. “And then she took me to a bench and we sat on a bench at this outdoor amphitheater and she told me the whole story in the most sincere, beautiful way.”
Liv Tyler says after learning the news about her birth father, the “first wave was shock.”
“After that concert, we went home and my mom had a chaise lounge in front of a window and I remember sitting there for what felt like three days, but it was probably three hours, and just basically coming to this conclusion at the end of ‘Whoa, I have two dads and all this love,'” she said. “Maybe there’ll be two Christmases.’”
Mia Tyler, who was also there for the interview, said her mother, Cyrinda Foxe, broke the news to her that night as well.

Liv Tyler said she encountered Mia for the first time backstage at the concert.
“We went backstage after the show and then there was Mia. We met for the first time, and I remember someone asking if we were sisters, but we didn’t know,” she added.
Once the girls learned that they were related, they started sending postcards to one another until they met up for the first time in New York City.
When asked how Rundgren felt about Liv learning the truth about their relationship, Liv Tyler said that he always knew that they weren’t related to one another. Still, despite him knowing this, she said he probably still had a “hard” time dealing with everything.
“It’s probably still very hard and painful and I don’t speak to him enough,” she said. “I love him and I have brothers from him and I had a whole family with them, but I was a kid, so it was really hard because he was mad at my mom, and then suddenly Steven was there, and we did a paternity test, and it was positive.”
Along with Liv and Mia Tyler, Steven Tyler is also a proud dad to two more kids: Chelsea Tyler, 36, and Taj Monroe Tallarico, 34, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Teresa Barrick.
