Jonathan Bailey had fans divided over his outfit after wearing flip-flops in a recent red carpet appearance, but the “Jurassic World Rebirth” star has no regrets.
“I think what is cool is wearing stuff that you love,” Bailey told Craig Melvin on TODAY June 24. “It gives you confidence. I think itβs a banginβ look.”
“Yes. I agree,” his “Jurassic World” co-star Mahershala Ali said. “You can get away with it, brother.”
Bailey showed off the look on June 16 at a London red carpet for the latest film in the “Jurassic World” franchise, which hits theaters on July 2. He wore black pants, a gray sweater, sunglasses and a pair of black flip-flops as he posed alongside Ali and fellow co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Rupert Friend.
The British actor joked on TODAY that his toes “wanted to come to the party.”
Fans were divided in their reaction after the “Jurassic World” Instagram account shared a photo of Bailey’s red carpet look.
“Jonathan Bailey and those damn flip flops,” one fan commented with a crying emoji.
“Flip flops? How tacky!!” another wrote.
“Johnny and the flip flops. Iβm here for it!” another fan commented.
“Jbailey wearing flip flops is the charm lol,” an approving fan wrote.
Fans have also become enamored with the small glasses that Bailey wears in the movie as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis. He said on TODAY that he wore glasses for 10 years made by the company Cubitts, which created the ones he wore in “Jurassic World Rebirth.”
The spectacles are also an homage to another famous character in a summer blockbuster.
“It’s obviously a nod to (Richard) Dreyfuss in ‘Jaws,'” Bailey said about the iconic movie, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
