John Travolta gave “Grease” fans the thrill of their lives when he dressed up as Danny Zuko for a surprise appearance at a screening of the hit 1978 movie musical.
The 71-year-old actor shared a pic on Instagram that showed him wearing a leather jacket and a slicked-back pompadour to make a cameo at a June 27 “Grease” sing-along at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
The two-time Oscar nominee included a video of him strutting onstage at the event, where he stunned his original “Grease” co-stars Didi Conn, Barry Pearl, Kelly Ward, Michael Tucci and director Randal Kleiser.
Audience members rose to their feet and cheered as they spotted the star making his way to the stage, microphone in hand.
“L.A! I thought you were going back to Australia?” Travolta joked, channeling his 1950s greaser character.
“Thatโs cool, thatโs cool, baby. You know, rocking and rolling and whatnot,” he added.
He then coaxed his co-stars into a quick, โA-womp-bop-a-looma/ A-womp-bam-boom,” before telling the crowd, โEnjoy the show. We love you!โ

Travolta captioned his post, โTonight at the Hollywood Bowl, for the first time I surprised everyone at the GREASE Sing-A-Long and dressed up as Danny Zuko.”
โNo one knew. Not even the cast,โ he added.

“Grease,” based on the hit 1972 Broadway musical of the same name, follows Danny, a local bad boy, and Sandy (Olivia Newton-John), a wholesome high school transfer student from Australia, as they reunite at Rydell High School after meeting at the beach over the summer.
Travolta and the late Newton-John reunited with their co-stars in 2018 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of โGrease.” The following year, the pair dressed as their “Grease” characters to attend a Meet nโ โGreaseโ sing-along in West Palm Beach, Florida.
โFirst time in costume since we made the movie! So excited!!โ Newton-John captioned a pic of the pair on her Instagram page at the time.
Newton-John died of cancer in 2022 at age 73. Travolta paid tribute to her in an emotional post on Instagram.
โMy dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible,โ he wrote. โI love you so much. We will see you down the road, and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever!โ
He signed his tribute with a nod to his โGreaseโ character, writing, โYour Danny, your John!โ
