The couple have been married since 2010 and share six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn and Jeremiah.

Over the years, James Van Der Beek and his wife haven’t been shy about publicly proclaiming their love for one another and relishing sweet moments as a family of eight, including amid his recent health struggles.

In November 2024, James Van Der Beek revealed he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

โ€œIโ€™ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,โ€ he said in a statement at the time. โ€œThereโ€™s reason for optimism, and Iโ€™m feeling good.โ€

James Van Der Beek appeared on TODAY July 30 and spoke about his cancer journey. He said his six children “know” when he’s in pain.

“They can sense that Dadโ€™s having a tough day,” he said. “They know if Dadโ€™s in pain. They know, and so by not telling them I think youโ€™re confusing them even more.”

“Just allow yourself to be surprised by their resiliency,” he added. “When you tell them what youโ€™re doing, and you tell them the approach, they can see it and they can feel it, and I think itโ€™s also your journey is their journey.”
