A Justin Bieber impersonator is now banned from the Wynn Hotel after tricking the staff and even a DJ into letting him perform for hundreds of people.
On Aug. 16, fans at XS Nightclub at the Wynn Las Vegas were amazed when a man claiming to be Bieber joined DJ Gryffin for his set. In a video shared on social media, a shirtless and tattooed man wearing sunglasses is seen singing along to Bieber’s hit “Sorry” as many members of the crowd record him and cheer. Gryffin also appears in the clip behind his controller, turning knobs and mouthing the words.
Text over the screen read, “POV you go clubbing in Vegas and Justin Bieber is performing,” and the caption said “When in Vegas!!!!! I guesss.”
But it turns out the TikTok user, the audience and Gryffin were duped as the man on stage was an imitator.
In a statement obtained by NBC News, Wynn Las Vegas confirmed that the hotel staff later learned about the detailed scheme and that the prankster is no longer welcome at the hotel.
“After an elaborate and multi-step ruse by him and his advance team, a Justin Bieber impersonator was granted access to the XS stage,” Wynn Las Vegas said. “As soon as the error was recognized, he was removed from the resort and denied future entry.”
Gryffin, a music producer who has worked with artists like Carly Rae Jepsen, Aloe Blacc and Tinashe, also reacted to the news that he had been fooled.
On Aug. 18, Gryffin uploaded a video to Instagram that showed him hyping up the crowd during his set and shouting “Bieber in the house y’all” in a microphone while the imposter was on stage. Text over the video read, “how bustin jeiber duped me during my own set.”
The clip then included a sound of a record scratch and voiceover that said, “Yup that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.”
The video cut to show Gryffin being informed by someone off camera that “Justin Bieber” arrived at the Las Vegas nightclub and wanted to perform. The DJ noted that the “dark venue” and “loud music” contributed to him not realizing he was speaking to a pretender.
“So his ‘team’ said he wanted to perform sorry… little did i know i was about to be sorry…” Gryffin wrote. He shared that after “Justin Bieber” sang the entire song he received “the worst news imaginable.”
“That was insane,” Gryffin said in disbelief before he was told the truth by a member of his team. “No way,” he responded, in complete shock.
Gryffin dubbed the mix-up “biebergate2025” in the caption.
Celebrity friends poked fun at the situation in the comments.
Paris Hilton simply reacted to the post with a rolling on the floor emoji and Zedd similarly responded with a crying-face emoji.
Retired NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, who goes by the name DJ Diesel on stage, joked, “This happens to me all the time.”
One Instagram user gave the fake Justin Bieber some credit, writing, “Amazing song choice by him and his ‘team’ if you think about it.”
