Duke Health reached a $248 million agreement six months after Novant Health abandoned plans to acquire the Mooresville hospital.
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Duke Health finalized its $248 million purchase of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, taking over operations at the Mooresville hospital on Tuesday.
The facility was officially renamed Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital during a ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
Duke Health agreed to buy the 123-bed hospital from Tennessee-based Community Health Systems last December. Lake Norman Regional Medical Center offers 24-hour emergency care, labor and delivery services, cardiology, surgical and orthopedic care and an outpatient imaging center. The move marks a significant expansion of Duke Health’s services outside the Raleigh area.
“This is an exciting day for Duke Health and the Lake Norman team,” Craig Albanese, chief executive officer of Duke University Health System (DUHS), said. “We have a bright future ahead and look forward to bringing the excellence and innovation of Duke Health to enhance the care offered at Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital and clinics.”
Duke Health’s purchase of the hospital came about six months after Novant Health abandoned its plans to acquire Lake Norman Regional and Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. Novant backed out of the deal after federal regulators argued it would give Novant too much control of the health care market in the area.
“We are so excited to be turning the page on the care provided at Lake Norman,” Randy Marion, chair of the Lake Norman Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees, said. “The Mooresville community and Iredell County will greatly benefit from Duke Health’s vision for the future and commitment to delivering high quality, patient-centered care.”
