Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler haven’t starred in a movie together since 2014, but she’s still thinking about the time they’ve shared on screen.
Specifically, their kiss scenes โ in a platonic way โ she said with a grin on the Feb. 5 episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.”
Cohen asked the “Charlie’s Angels” star who her best on-screen kiss was, and Barrymore’s eyes got wide as she thought about her answer.
“I mean, I love that Adam Sandler and I are so platonic โ we never dated, his wife, Jackie, is my dear friend, but I love being in films with him because I think we’re representing something bigger than, like, hot, sexual chemistry,” she said. “We’re representing, like, true admiration of another person.”
In 2003, Sandler married his wife, Jackie Sandler, after meeting her on the set of the 1999 comedy “Big Daddy.” The pair now share two daughters, Sadie and Sunny.
Barrymore has been married three times, first to Jeremy Thomas from 1994-1995, and later to Tom Green from 2001-2002 and Will Kopelman from 2012-2016. She and Kopelman share two daughters together, Olive and Frankie.
Barrymore and Sandler first starred in a film together in the 1998 classic โThe Wedding Singer.โ They worked together again in the 2004 rom-com “50 First Dates,” and later reunited in 2014’s “Blended.”
Though they haven’t starred together in a film in more than a decade, Barrymore revealed that something may be in the works in 2023.
โWe might have mentioned something about it this morning,โ Barrymore told “Entertainment Tonight” at the time. โWeโre actively seeking.โ
She added that they were looking to do something that wasn’t “redundant” of what they’ve done in the past, and that they were waiting for the perfect “alchemy” before starting something new.
โWe work really hard in the writing to balance it out for the male-female perspective. We always try to infuse something that we really think is meaningful, as far as storylines, or what we relate to or what we want to see in a story, โcause we need that,โ Barrymore said. โWe make it personal, even though itโs not us up there.โ
She added, โI will say this: Adam and I seem to really know it when we know it. And weโre like, โThis is it.โโ
