Doug Fordโ€™s PCs will win another majority, CBC News projects

Fordโ€™s campaign manager stands by choice to call election

Speaking to CBC’s Lorenda Reddekopp, Doug Ford’s campaign manager made the case for the early Ontario election amid the “unparalleled and unprecedented threat” of tariffs south of the border.

PC Leader Doug Ford took a lot of heat throughout the campaign for his decision to call an election early. There was no second guessing tonight from Kory Teneycke, Doug Fordโ€™s campaign manager.

โ€œYouโ€™ve seen examples of early election calls where the electorate has not agreed with the rationale for going early and punished the party that chose to go that direction. You kind of saw the opposite of that this time. Rather than going down five or six points in the polls, we went up five or six points. I think it’s an unusual situation in many different ways,โ€ Teneycke told CBCโ€™s Lorenda Reddekopp at party headquarters.

โ€œWe were pretty confident this is the right thing to do. Once you call it, though, it’s in the hands of the electorate as to whether or not theyโ€™re going to give you that mandate that youโ€™re looking for. I think it was the right thing to do to seek that mandate.

“I think the premier believed that in his heart and I think that came across.โ€
