Fordโs campaign manager stands by choice to call election
Speaking to CBC’s Lorenda Reddekopp, Doug Ford’s campaign manager made the case for the early Ontario election amid the “unparalleled and unprecedented threat” of tariffs south of the border.
PC Leader Doug Ford took a lot of heat throughout the campaign for his decision to call an election early. There was no second guessing tonight from Kory Teneycke, Doug Fordโs campaign manager.
โYouโve seen examples of early election calls where the electorate has not agreed with the rationale for going early and punished the party that chose to go that direction. You kind of saw the opposite of that this time. Rather than going down five or six points in the polls, we went up five or six points. I think it’s an unusual situation in many different ways,โ Teneycke told CBCโs Lorenda Reddekopp at party headquarters.
โWe were pretty confident this is the right thing to do. Once you call it, though, it’s in the hands of the electorate as to whether or not theyโre going to give you that mandate that youโre looking for. I think it was the right thing to do to seek that mandate.
