TikTokers are using this trick to help land what they call the “perfect candid photo” — but does it actually work?
Users have been sharing videos of themselves doing the now-viral method, which involves linking arms with one another, looking overly enthusiastic and galloping in the same direction.
As part of the trend, TikTokers share themselves doing the awkward motion as a video, followed by a photo reveal that often looks natural and pleasant.
The official TikTok account for “Six” on Broadway shared some of the stars’ attempt at seeing if the trend worked.
“Apparently if you walk like this you get the perfect candid photos,” the text read over the video of the cast doing the galloping motion in front of the Broadway show’s sign.
Additional text encouraged viewers to wait until the end of the video, when the result was revealed.
“why did it work so well 💀,” one person wrote.
“yes definitely worked !! stunning ! 💕” another expressed.
“The rock step in photos changes the game! It gets the best candid moments,” a third penned.
Another noteworthy attempt of the TikTok trend was from Reese Witherspoon, who tried it out with some friends.
“I can’t believe this actually worked,” Witherspoon said in her caption with a smiling emoji.
But does this trend really work for a flattering candid photo? Susan Shek, an NYC-based wedding photographer, tells TODAY.com that she’s a fan.
“I thought it was interesting, that it did some really cool photos and made people laugh,” Shek says on her initial takes on the trend.
“It creates a lot of natural moments and authentic emotions — laughing and giggling and looking silly,” Shek continues, adding that a “happy moment” and “good reactions” is what she aims for.
Shek says that the trend is not only beginner-friendly but also helpful for those who are sky.
“Most of the time, you try to get the natural moments, but if you give them a good prompt, like hop around, they’ll look silly at first, but then they’ll enjoy it after they see the pictures,” Shek says.
