Warning: Spoilers ahead for Season 3 of “Squid Game”
“Squid Game” Season 3 is yet another brutal and devastating season filled with deaths and many surprises.
The third and final season of the hit Korean drama continues to center on Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who is hoping to put an end to the games, while still competing in multiple rounds.
Amid his storyline, there is also another one that centers on Player 246 and Soldier 11. The events from Season 2, specifically the ending, made it seem as though the player had been shot and died after he and others tried to overthrow the game.
However, Season 3 shows otherwise.
Who is Player 246?
Player 246 is Gyeong-seok (Lee Jin-Wook). He entered the games in Season 2 in hopes to get money for his daughter’s cancer treatment.
Player 246 was struggling financially and worked at an amusement park with No-eul (Park Gyu-young), who viewers discover is Soldier 11. No-eul is a North Korean defector and former solider who had left her newborn daughter behind.
Viewers saw both of them when Gyeong-seok’s daughter was at the amusement park and No-eul, dressed in a Bunny costume, gave her a lollipop. The young child then followed her into the dressing room and saw the rest of the mascots taking off their costumes. Gyeong-seok found her crying and apologized to his colleague.
In another scene, Gyeong-seok’s daughter fainted and someone called the ambulance. She was taken to the hospital, where Gyeong-seok was told about how expensive his daughter’s treatment will be.
During this time, No-eul checked in on her coworker and his daughter.
What happens to Player 246?
Player 246, also known as Gyung-seok, enters the game and eventually teams up with Gi-hun to begin the rebellion against the game maker. At the end of Season 2, it appears as though he is shot and dies.
However, the third season opens with him begging for his life before he is shot in the abdomen. The guard tells him to close his eyes and do as they say if he wants to live. He is marked as eliminated but in reality, he is not.
He is taken to the guards’ organ trafficking ring but Soldier 11 infiltrates the team and saves him. She disguises him in a soldier outfit and they break out of the building with the help of others.
As they’re leaving on a boat, Soldier 11 gets a message to turn around with Player 246. In return, she will be able to live. The officer tells her that he has all of Gyung-seok’s information, including where his daughter is being treated.
No-eul returns to the island but tells Gyung-seok to leave and when he gets to land call the police because his daughter is in danger. She doesn’t reveal who she is.
Instead, she goes back into the building and makes the Masked officer delete all the records about Player 246. While the online information is deleted, there is still a hard copy in the captain’s archive.
They go to the restricted office and fight to the death. No-eul ends up killing him and goes in search of the book with all the players’ information.
Meanwhile, Gyung-seok is chased by other guards. Right when they are about to kill him, he is saved by detective Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon).
Gyung-seok tells Hwang Jun-ho and his crew where the island is.
Six months later, he is seen back at his amusement park job, drawing No-eul’s portrait — though, he doesn’t initially remember who she is.
His daughter runs up to him. She has recovered and is doing well. No-eul greats her and gives her a lollipop, before leaving the park.
