Tom Sandoval auditioned on “America’s Got Talent,— but is he advancing to the next round of the competition?
Sandoval and his band, Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras, performed a cover of a-ha’s 1985 hit “Take On Me” in front of judges Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, Howie Mandel and Mel B in an episode that aired on June 24.
The group received a standing ovation from the crowd, as well as all four judges.
“You made me smile! You gave me happy vibes,” Mel B said. “And apart from that song being one of my favorite songs, you all looked like you were fully enjoying yourselves, and you’re not embarrassed to say that you are a cover band.”
The former Spice Girls member added that she may need a cover band at her upcoming wedding.
Vergara and Mandel also shared words of support on how much they loved the performance. However, Cowell started his feedback with some brutal honesty.
“For me, the vocals weren’t great, Tom, I’m going to be honest with you,” Cowell said, leading to boos from the audience.
Sandoval bit his lip and looked down as Cowell continued.
“However, not everyone comes on this show to get a record deal. Sometimes it’s about being true to who you are.”
The judges then began to vote, with Mel B and Vergara giving Sandoval immediate yeses, and the crowd chanting, “Yes!” as Cowell deliberated.
“I’m going to say… yes!” Cowell said, meaning Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras will be headed to the next round of the NBC competition.

Sandoval and his band jumped up and down and celebrated, before Sandoval thanked the judges and headed off stage.
He then told “AGT” host Terry Crews how much the moment meant to him.
“It means so much to me, to see all these people coming from different places, that come together and were happy and cheering for us, and rooting for us!” he said.
Sandoval also posted photos from his audition on Instagram.
“I feel so honored to be able to bring my band into to such a cool and different experience,” he wrote in the caption. “I’m also thankful for the ones who came to support me and of course, all of my fans supporting us! Love y’all!! 🤘🏼🎸🖤 But the big question is.. do you think we made it to the next round?”
