Daddy Yankee Steps Out of Retirement for 2025 Billboard Latin Music Week: EXCLUSIVE

Daddy Yankee is stepping into a new chapter in his successful career.

After announcing his retirement from the music industry in 2022, the Puerto Rican star is officially making his return during the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Week in October, TODAY.com exclusively confirms.

The singer, who is now going by the moniker DY, will participate in โ€œThe Power of Reinventionโ€ panel, where he will reflect on his career, evolution and whatโ€™s to come in his next era.

The reaggetonero had been slowly making his return to music after he dropped his single โ€œSonrรญeleโ€ (or โ€œSmileโ€) in July. Before the song premiered, he released a teaser video titled โ€œDY is Backโ€ featuring actor Anthony Ramos.

In March 2022, Yankee formally announced that he would be stepping away from music after releasing his final album, โ€œLegendaddy,โ€ and going on one last tour.

โ€œToday, Iโ€™m announcing my retirement from music by giving you my best production and concert tour. I will say goodbye celebrating these 32 years of experience with this new collectorโ€™s item, my album โ€˜Legendaddy.โ€™ Iโ€™m going to give you all the styles that have defined me in one single album,โ€ he said in Spanish. โ€œโ€˜Legendaddyโ€™ โ€” itโ€™s fight, itโ€™s party, itโ€™s war, itโ€™s romance.โ€

Known for his songs like โ€œGasolinaโ€ and โ€œDespacito,โ€ DY became one of the leaders of reggaeton after the release of his debut album, โ€œNo Mercy.โ€ He only cemented his place as the “King of Reggaeton” with his 2004 hit album, โ€œBarrio Fino.โ€

His upcoming appearance will mark a new music journey for the artist, hopefully sharing more details about what’s to come.

Billboard Latin Music Week 2025 will run Oct. 20โ€“24 at Fillmore Miami Beach. Other artists participating in events and panels include Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Ela Taubert, Laura Pausini, Ozuna and many more.

The event coincides with the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which will broadcast live from Miami on Oct. 23 on Telemundo and Peacock. (Peacock is part of TODAY.com’s parent company, NBCUniversal.)
