Craig Melvin found himself smack in the middle of the โIโm so hungry I could eatโ TikTok trend on TODAY on May 2.
Craig was on the Plaza with Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Carson Daly when Savannah started filming a video of Craig.
โIโm so hungry I could eat Leroy Doby,โ she said while taking the video.
โWe played that game two days ago,โ he responded before turning around to see Doby, his childhood friend, in the crowd.
โAre you kidding me?โ Craig exclaimed, as he and Doby hugged.
โWell done,โ he continued to Savannah, while briefly mentioning the trend, in which someone tells you theyโre so hungry they could eat a random person from your past, with no context as to why that person is named. Craig then told everyone about his history with Doby.
โLeroy and I have been friends since we were in third grade,โ Craig said. โHeโs the godfather of my son (Delano). (He) served his country for 20 years. I donโt know why Iโm getting all emotional. Thank you for being here.โ
Doby showed up in person two days after Craig was pranked by TODAY social media video producer KC Cibran on April 30 in the โIโm so hungry I could eatโ trend, in which Doby was named.
โIs Leroy here?โ a confused Craig responded. โWhat game is this?โ
That moment sparked something in Craig, according to Savannah, who told Leroy just how excited he was when he heard Dobyโs name as part of that first prank.
โWhen Craig heard your name, his eyes lit up. We just were so touched by it. We were like, โWe got to get Leroy here!โโ she said on TODAY May 2.
Craig is the latest member of the TODAY family to be targeted as part of the trend. On April 24, Jenna Bush Hagerโs assistant Julia Plant told Jenna she was so hungry she could eat Richard Gentry, who was Jennaโs prom date.
On May 1, Jenna got Carson on TODAY when she said, โIโm so hungry I could eat a Jennifer Love Hewitt,โ referring to his former girlfriend, whom he dated back in his days hosting โTRLโ on MTV.
โThank you for doing what I was about to do,โ Savannah said.
โWait, what?โ Carson said, while Savannah and Jenna exchanged a high-five.
