Christopher Meloni is ready to kick off a new venture in his career.
The โLaw & Order: Organized Crimeโ actor has signed on to star in an upcoming Hulu series set in the NFL.
The untitled show comes from โThis Is Usโ creator Dan Fogelman, who shared a screenshot of a Deadline article confirming Meloniโs involvement.
โWelcome to the team @chris_meloni,โ he wrote on his Instagram page July 23.
Meloni will reportedly play the head coach of an NFL team, according to Deadline.
โIt is believed to be a sprawling drama set inside the world of the NFL with a generational family component,โ Deadline first reported last year about the show.
Meloni is best known for his role as Detective Elliot Stabler on โLaw & Order: Organized Crime,โ which concluded its fifth season on Peacock in June. He originated the role on โLaw and Order: Special Victims Unitโ in 1999 and played Stabler for 12 seasons before reprising him on the show for multiple episodes beginning in 2021, the same year โOrganized Crimeโ premiered.
Interestingly, โThis Is Usโ would occasionally mention the NFLโs Pittsburgh Steelers during its run, with the Pearson family rooting on their hometown team.
This new project will also mark a full-circle moment of sorts for Meloni. One of his earliest roles came in the fifth season of the HBO series โ1st & Ten.โ He played Vito Del Greco, also known as Johnny Gunn, in the comedy starring O.J. Simpson that revolved around a fictitious pro football team called the California Bulls.
